Shannon Dunn Downing is the first U.S. Olympic medalist in the sport of snowboarding, and a trendsetter for women in the sport. She currently resides in California and is now a graduate of our Arche Year Cohort.
God is positioning Shannon to be a light and a resource to the next generation, and we’re thrilled to work with her!
Shannon’s testimony and faith throughout her accomplishments as a professional athlete are inspiring. Through the guidance and mentorship of the Arche Year Cohort, she has written a complete novel manuscript sharing her testimony and the lessons God has taught her.
“Writing your testimony is so powerful,” Shannon told us on the Meet the Women of Arche Year podcast episode. “But then to put it in a novel in an interesting story form is even more powerful.”
In addition to the novel, Shannon has also built a professional author’s platform. She uses her website and social media to inspire others, with an emphasis on teen girls, to live life with adventure and grow close to Jesus.

“I am surprised at the completeness of the program,” she said. “I thought we were just going to focus on the writing aspect: how to be a better writer, how to write the novel… but you taught us how to look at the structure of it and simplify it. Everything you’ve done is simplify the process. Then to go beyond the actual writing of the novel is the business component… I love the accountability.”
Brad did a full interview with Shannon, which you can watch on YouTube below, or find the podcast at the bottom of this page or on your favorite podcast app.
Shannon was an inspiration in the Cohort, a small group of six writers. Her prayerful positivity is contagious, and the humility and light she brought to the group motivated us all.
Congratulations, Shannon! You’ve inspired each one of us, and we’re proud to call you a graduate of the Arche Year Cohort. We’re absolutely thrilled to see what God has in store for you.
