2020 Arche Year Cohort Details

Arche Year Cohort is a comprehensive program which supplements the free Arche Year Classes. The program provides individualized coaching, small group support, developmental editing, and publishing consultation. While the Arche Year classes are free, the Cohort carries a tuition of $1,999.

Students who complete the Arche Year Cohort will have a complete novel manuscript, professionally edited and ready for publication, and they will develop a professional online presence, including a website and social media. Students who complete the program will be in a position to attract the attention of agents and publishers, or to sell a self-published book directly to their audience.

As part of the program, students commit to attending all classes and support sessions, and to spend at least 10 hours per work implementing the course assignments.

Applications for the 2020 Arche Year Cohort are now closed. You may still register for the free classes here.

Cohort Deliverables

As a member of the Arche Year Cohort, students will receive:

  • Weekly Small Group Support Sessions (approximately 32 sessions)
  • Individual Coaching (email, phone, or in-person meetings, at the discretion of the instructor)
  • Complete Developmental Edit of Finished Manuscript (Margin Notes, Market Analysis, Detailed Report of Suggestions)
  • Publishing Consultation

Weekly support sessions include additional question & answer time, as well as troubleshooting for the previous week’s assignments. Support sessions also include emotional and spiritual support. The Cohort will spend time each week addressing one another’s spiritual and emotional health, and engaging in prayer together.

Weekly support sessions will be held via Zoom. However, if enough local students are accepted, we may make an in-person support session available.

Student Commitment

As a member of the Arche Year Cohort, students commit to:

  • 10 Hours per Week
  • Attendance at all classes and support sessions (incidental abscences are OK)
  • Adherance to Instructor Guidelines and Counsel
  • Have a budget of $500 available for discretionary spending on third party services (for example, web hosting, graphic design, social media advertising, etc.)

Application Process

The application process is simple and informal.

Step 1: Begin by filling out the short application here (click here to begin).

Step 2: Someone from SOKW will contact you to arrange an interview.

This course is designed for busy working adults. By the same token, the application process is simple, conversational, and not burdensome. There is no cost to apply to the program.

In most cases, we’ll ask for a writing sample at the conclusion of the interview. The sample can be anything-a poem, an essay, a blog post, even something you put on social media. We’re trying to get a sense of your voice, it’s not a proofreading test or audition.

Tuition Details

The tuition to join the Arche Year Cohort is $1,999. There are no other hidden charges or other fees.

This tuition can be paid up front or in eight monthly installments of $250.

$250 is due upon acceptance into the program to hold your spot. The remainder of the program cost or the next monthly payment is due on September 1st.

For those who pay up front, $250 will be due upon acceptance to the program, with $1,749 due by September 1, 2020.

For those who make monthly payments, $250 will be due upon acceptance into the program. Monthly payments of $250 will then be due on the first of the month in September, October, November, December, January, February, and March.

Note that students may need to make incidental purchases as part of the program. For instance, as you’re guided to build a website, you may need to purchase website hosting. We recommend that students have a total of $500 available for these types of purchases. All of these purchases will be made at the discretion of the student. All purchases will be made from third-party service providers with no relationship to SOKW.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I apply to the Arche Year Cohort, but it doesn’t work out, can I still take the free Arche Year classes?

Absolutely! If for any reason you are not accepted into the Cohort or you decide it’s not the right fit for you, we would love to have you continue with the free classes.

Is there any cost to apply?

No, there are no application fees or any other costs to apply to the Cohort.

What kind of novel do I have to write?

You’ll learn a specific method of novel-writing that will work for most genres and concepts. If you already have an idea for a book, there’s a great chance that it will work for this program and the structure will help you complete it. If you don’t yet have an idea, this program will also lead you in the discovery and development of an idea.

If you love Jesus, you’re welcome in the Cohort. If your ideas challenge the conventional concept of “Christian literature,” that’s OK.

Will you teach the Bible?

We do not provide any theological teaching. You should remain plugged into your local church or small group to learn more about the Bible.

Our spiritual support will be limited to praying for one another in the specific context of completing the Arche Year program. While we may share scripture from time to time, our intent is to build up and encourage, not to provide exegesis or theological teaching.

Are there other ways to pay the tuition?

If you need to arrange a different payment plan for the tuition, please let us know. We’re happy to discuss it.
