Christian creative writing training that actually works.

If you’re serious about becoming a professional writer, let’s talk. Aspiring adult writers of all ages are encouraged to join our apprenticeship program.

This isn’t about high-minded arts theory or intellectual discourse. We empower you with the essential skills to become an author that Americans want to read, see, and hear.

This is as much a ministry school as a writing school. Why? Because Christian writers are in ministry. We connect daily with Jesus and our highest priority is to help you grow into the full calling God has on your life.

It’s not enough to simply know how to write. There’s a business side, too. You’ll complete this program fully prepared to write professionally, armed with a comprehensive understanding of the publishing industry.

Full-Time, On-site Apprenticeship Program

Now Accepting Applications for Fall 2023!

There’s more to becoming a professional writer than just learning to write well. A lot more. We can help.

At the School of Kingdom Writers, you will learn how to write. You will learn the business of writing. And you will connect deeply with the Holy Spirit.

Our full-time apprenticeship program will train you to write professionally, publish, and get paid to do it.

This program is open to adults of all ages and backgrounds. If you’re all-in for Jesus and aspire to be a novelist and influencer, you’re in the right place.

Our next full-time class will begin on September 4, 2023. We are now accepting applications for this class.

This is a full-time, on-site apprenticeship program. Students join us in Zanesville, Ohio, for the duration of the 2-year program.

We will fill seats in this program as applications are received, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. We’ll update this page when the class is full.

We recommend carefully reviewing all of the information on this page and the provided links before applying. As soon as you’re ready, the button below will take you to our secure online application.

Apprenticeship Method

Our unique apprenticeship model allows our lead instructor, Brad Pauquette, to work with each author individually to learn your unique goals and help you to step into your calling. The instruction is completed in a small group setting, and each writer develops a personal one-on-one relationship with Brad as a trusted mentor.

Year 1

The first year of the program lays down a foundation of writing skills, professional assets, and spiritual development. There’s lots of instruction in a small group setting. Apprentices build skills and experiment with their work. In the first year, students will write many short stories, a novella, and a full-length novel.

You’ll also build a professional website, launch an effective professional social media presence, develop a mailing list, and legally set up your writing business for success. You’ll learn not only fiction writing, but also how to write for business and marketing and how to create multimedia content.

In the first year, students are encouraged to explore lots of different genres and writing styles to find their voice. We also work together to seek the Holy Spirit to identify how He’s calling you to use your gift for the Kingdom.

Year 2

The second year is all about implementation. We’re now building on the foundation of the first year to put your individualized plan in action. Some students begin earning money with their work in the second year.

In the second year, you are producing work for the market, aggressively building your marketing platform, and applying the lessons of the first year to build healthy, sustainable professional and spiritual routines.

Do I need to commit to both years?

One of the biggest assets of our program is the flexibility. Most students do commit to the two year program and that’s usually the best fit. However, please contact us to discuss your unique situation. Ultimately, we’re here to help you reach your goals as an author and to help you step into the calling the Lord is inviting you into. We’re happy to discuss your work and life situation to address the best way we can incorporate you into our apprenticeship program.

Apprentice Testimonials

Anya Israel

Anya Israel, age 20, from Wichita, Kansas

“Honestly, I was surprised most by how much I’ve grown spiritually. I’m stronger, more confident, and more peaceful than I’ve ever been both mentally and spiritually. The results of growth are always worth the pain of the journey.”

Michaylah Malone

Michaylah Malone, age 30s, from Paris, Texas

“If you feel God is calling you to write and you desire hands-on learning, then this school is the perfect place to be! I’ve experienced growth, discipline, discipleship, healing, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be called by God for the glory of His kingdom. Although I enjoyed writing stories before, this school teaches the secrets to actually succeeding in the world of writing. I imagine the experience so far as bones being broken in order to grow back correctly as habits I’ve accumulated over the years are being renewed for the better. Best decision I ever made!”

Thirzah Griffioen

Thirzah Griffioen, age 18, from Bryans Road, Maryland

What I really love about the School of Kingdom Writers so far, is that I can already see my writing improve– quite a bit. I’ve learned a lot of different techniques that have completely changed the way I used to write, and I’m so impressed with the results.

Leanna Hampton

Leanna Hampton, age 30s, from New Albany, Ohio

“One of the things that surprised me about being a student at SOKW is that, unlike my experiences in traditional schooling, everything I learn here has a direct purpose and practical application to my career as a writer. I’m learning how to become a successful author, business woman, and spiritual minister. The instruction specifically targets areas I need to improve. Through lessons and practice, I’ve seen my skills grow rapidly. My favorite thing about the school is that my classmates are committed to one another’s growth as writers and as disciples of Jesus. I love the holistic experience of worshiping, praying, and learning together everyday. The biggest hurdle for me has been Author Imposter Syndrome and pushing past the voices that contradict what God says about my abilities. I’m so thankful that I’m surrounded by a team of students and staff that believe in me and remind me to walk in my calling as a writer.”
