Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to write a short story on the theme Kingdoms at War.
We are at war. We live our life in conflict between the light and the darkness.
Sometimes our conflicts are overt, played out right in front of us: nation against nation, people against their governments, group against group. Sometimes the conflicts are hidden from our natural eyes: they rage inside of us, good and evil, hope and shame.
The winner of this month’s writing contest will receive a $100 Amazon gift card and be published to the School of Kingdom Writers website.
You may interpret this theme and apply it as creatively as you want. You don’t have to write a medieval or fantasy story about literal kingdoms. Your kingdoms can be emotional, psychological, metaphorical, or allegorical. It can be set in any time period, with any technology. Expose the darkness or show us the redemptive power of the light.
We are looking for narrative work. You can write fiction or non-fiction, but it should be structured as a story.
We’ll be looking at the quality of your story as whole. That includes your idea, your character and plot development, and your writing. You can approach the theme however you’d like, but we’d love to see some creativity.
Short Stories can be up to 3,500 words.

How do I enter? Send your submission to contest@SOKW.org no later than 11:59pm ET on April 30, 2021. By sending your submission, you agree to the terms here.
Please include your contact information in your email. Please type your manuscript in a legible font (like arial, Times New Roman, etc.). The maximum word count is 3,500 words.
Who can participate? Anyone. The contest is open to writers of all ages and experience levels. You may live anywhere in the world, but you must have a mailing address in the United States to receive physical prizes.
Do I keep the rights to my work? Yes! We will only publish the contest winner to our website. All others retain complete control and copyrights of their work. Before publishing the winner, we will ask for permission from the author.
Who will judge? The SOKW team will select a winner by May 15, 2021.
What do you win? The winner will receive bragging rights, recognition for their accomplishment, and a $100 Amazon gift card.
Runner-up will receive recognition and one item of their choice from the SOKW store. (Must reside in the United States)
When is the deadline? 11:59pm ET on April 30, 2021.
